My Grocery Shopping Tips & Tricks

Fruits & Vegetables

  • Dedicate most of your groceries to produce.

  • Shop for (seasonal) produce at the front of the grocery store. They are usually the ones on special!

  • Mix leafy greens together to keep it plentiful (ex: kale & spinach for salads)

  • Shop for frozen fruits to make smoothies & oatmeal bowls

  • Shop for frozen vegetables to cook up stir fries, stews and curries.

Grain Products

  • Cook your grains ahead of time to last you 3-4 days and be ready to eat.

  • Make use of leftover cooked grains to make stir fries or sautées.

  • Freeze if necessary (ex: bread, muffins, dumplings)

  • Stock up on your favorites (ex: soba noodles, pasta noodles, rice, millet, bread, crackers).

  • Don’t be afraid to try something new! Discover the world of whole grain foods to incorporate into your meals.

Protein

  • Marinate your meat or boil your eggs ahead of time to be ready to cook/eat.

  • Make use of canned goods as a source of protein (ex: chickpeas, tuna, salmon, sardines) for quick salads or open-faced sandwiches.

  • Buy in bulk (ex: chicken, fish, beef, cheese) then if necessary, freeze for later use.

  • Try frozen edamame for soups, poke bowls, stir fries, or salads.

  • Use nuts and seeds (ex: almonds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts) to top oatmeal, salads or open-faced sandwiches.

Eat well, shop responsibly & do your best in minimizing your food waste!
